Plan EcoVivienda: How Much is the Solar Panel Subsidy in Andalucia?

If you live on the Costa del Sol you get an average of 6 hours of full sun a day.

It’s enough to run home appliances at no cost from around 11am-5pm with a properly sized solar panel installation. And, if you have a solar battery, you could enjoy monthly electric bills under €20 for most of the year.

So why hasn’t every homeowner gone solar in Malaga and surroundings?

Like many, you’ve probably wondered if the cost of installing solar panels justifies the savings.

That’s where the Plan EcoVivienda comes in.

In 2024, homeowners in Andalusia can receive a grant covering 40% of the total installation cost up to a maximum of €18,800.

Sounds too good to be true?

In this article, we’ll explain exactly who can apply for this grant and the requirements to access it.

NOTE: The grant ends in December 2024, so it’s now or never!

What is the Plan EcoVivienda grant?

The Plan EcoVivienda is a grant offered by the Andalusian regional government, funded by the European Union’s Next Generation funds.

The goal is to improve energy efficiency in Andalusian homes. This plan follows on from other European support programmes for solar panel installation, extending the deadline until December 2024 due to high demand.

Currently, the Plan EcoVivienda is just one of three solar panel grants available in Andalusia in 2024. However, as a direct grant, the Plan EcoVivienda is often the most valuable.

If you’re reading this before December 2024, you still have time to take advantage.

Who Can Apply for the Grants?

Two types of people can apply for these grants:

  • Homeowners: any person who owns a property in Andalusia can access the grant, as long as they meet the requirements we’ll discuss later.
  • Communities of property owners: if you live in an urbanisation or apartment block, you can also benefit from these grants, as long as the project improves the building’s energy efficiency.

We’ll go over the specific requirements in more detail later.

When Do Plan EcoVivienda Grants End?

The deadline to apply for the grants is 26th December 2024.

Originally, the deadline was much earlier, but due to demand, it was extended.

If you want to benefit from the grant, you must have installed the solar panels and have all documentation in order before applying.

Don’t wait until the last minute to start.

How Much is the Grant for Installing Solar Panels in Andalusia?

The amount you can receive depends on whether you only install solar panels or also carry out other improvements/renovations on the property.

The renovations must be related to reducing non-renewable energy consumption and can include, for example, an aerothermal installation, insulation improvement, etc.

Below you’ll see the difference in the maximum grant available:

Line 3. Renovation at the level of buildings and single-family homes.

You can receive a grant of up to €18,800, depending on the energy savings achieved by the renovations. The amounts available in this line are as follows:

  • Savings of 30-45% – 40% of the total cost up to €6,300.
  • Savings of 45-60% – 65% of the total cost up to €11,600.
  • Savings of 60-80% – 80% of the total cost up to €18,800.

Line 4. Improvement of Energy Efficiency in Homes.

You can receive up to €3,000, which equals 40% of the installation cost.

The Requirements to Obtain the Plan EcoVivienda

To qualify for the EcoVivienda grant, several requirements must be met.

Here we’ll cover four of the most basic requirements:

  • Ownership: you must be the owner of the property, or in the case of a community, there must be an agreement from the community to carry out the improvements.
  • Residence: you need to live permanently in the property that will receive the improvements.
  • Prepayment: the installation cost must be financed upfront before justifying the grant.
  • Installation Before the Deadline: the installation of the solar panels and documentation must be completed before the grant’s deadline.

Below, we take a closer look at the requirements related to the installation and/or renovations.

Line 3. Renovation at the level of buildings and single-family homes.

At least a 30% reduction in non-renewable consumption is required. This can be achieved with a photovoltaic installation, for example.

Additionally, a reduction in the overall demand for heating and cooling may be required. This can be achieved by improving the building’s roofs, windows, and insulation. The amount depends on the climate zone where you live:

  • In climate zones D and E, a reduction of 35% is required.
  • In climate zone C, a reduction of 25% is required.
  • In climate zone B, no reduction is required.

If you live in Málaga, which is in climate zone B, for example, you would only need to achieve a reduction of at least 30% in non-renewable consumption.

But if you live in Granada, which is in climate zone C, you would need to reduce at least 30% in non-renewable consumption and also reduce the overall demand for heating and cooling by at least 25%.

Line 4. Improvement of Energy Efficiency in Homes.

This grant is the most requested by residential customers, according to our data at Ubora Solar.

Regarding the requirements for this grant, you only need to meet one of the following conditions:

  • Reduce non-renewable consumption by at least 30%.
  • Reduce the heating and cooling demand by at least 7%.
  • Replace thermal envelope elements in the building (such as windows).

In our experience at Ubora Solar, the following paperwork is then required:

  • Property owner’s ID
  • Energy Efficiency Certificate (EEC) for the property before installation
  • Energy Efficiency Certificate (EEC) for the projected or final building
  • Property’s Simple Note
  • IBAN of the bank account (must be registered in the Andalusian Regional Treasury’s Third-Party Accounts Register)

It’s advisable to contact a professional installer before starting, to ensure you meet all these requirements.

At Ubora Solar, for example, we handle the EEC, the application process, and the photovoltaic installation.

How to Apply for the EcoVivienda Grant

Many people first think about whether they can install the solar panels themselves to save money on installation.

But it’s not that easy.

To begin with, you’ll need a certified electrician if you want to take advantage of the EcoVivienda grant. Certified installers are the only ones who can sign off on the project, an important step in applying for this grant.

Additionally, two Energy Efficiency Certificates (EEC) are required before and after the installation. Again, only a technician can sign off on these certificates.

Some other advantages of working with professionals include:

  • High-quality installation
  • Better price for the complete service
  • Guidance throughout the entire process
  • Experience in managing grants

We recommend requesting a quote from Ubora Solar to see how much you could save and benefit from their experience with the Plan EcoVivienda.
